Description: The Species of rose typically used in aromatherapy is Rosa Damascena, although the essential oil from R. Centifolia is also produced commercially. As with many floral essential oils, the flowers produce only tiny quantities of oil per blossom, so Rose oil is traditionally very expensive. The flowers also need special treatment: handpicking, followed by extraction with solvents to obtain the concrete (or absolute), which is a waxy solid at room temperature; and finally, an extraction of the concrete to obtain the essential oil - also known as an otto. The color of the otto varies, but is usually a somewhat viscous yellow.

Bulgaria and Turkey produce the best-quality Rose essential oil, with its characteristic, almost geranium-like scent, which differs from the smell of the flower because of the concentration of the aroma. Egypt and Morocco produce an oil that smells more like the rose itself, but which has a different chemical composition. Common Uses: Rose Absolute essential oil is traditionally considered useful for gynecological and women's hormonal problems, and the mood states that tend to accompany them.

It is also used in skincare preparations for its ability to soften and restore youthful qualities to the skin, helping to reduce the redness of capillaries. It is also commonly used to help treat broken capillaries, conjunctivitis, dry skin, eczema, mature and sensitive complexions, wrinkles, palpitations, poor circulation, asthma, coughs, hay fever, cholecystitis, liver congestion, nausea, depression, impotence, insomnia, frigidity, headache, nervous tension and stress related complaints. Dry and red skin: Add 3 drops of Rose Absolute essential oil to 1 teaspoon of Jojoba oil. Massage into the face, neck and hands, and enjoy the beautiful fragrance.

Grief or loss: Wear 1 drop of Rose Absolute essential oil as a daily perfume to help you through periods of grief and loss. Blends well with the following essential oils. Bergamot, Chemomile Roman, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Melissa, Neroli, Patchouli, Palmarosa, Rosewood, Sandalwood and Ylang-Ylang. Use with caution if pregnant or breast feeding as well as for babies or small children and pets, as it can be toxic in higher doses. May cause irritation to sensitive skin, however it is rare.
