INCREDIBLE and EXTREMELY RARE Victorian blue glass medicine bottle with ORIGINAL AUTHENTIC LABEL and GENUINE CORK STOPPER. Embossed lettering on the glass says CLARKE'S on the side, LINCOLN on the other side (that's the name of the town where the company was based), and on the back, WORLD FAMED BLOOD MIXTURE with 16 lines to mark doses. On the bottom is the number 10107 identifying the bottle style and the mold, or mould, used. This is a genuine antique glass medicine bottle with its original label and cork.
The beauty, on the other hand, and the scarceness, are visible at a glance. Consistent with the time period, the bottle isn't perfectly symmetrical. A mold was used to make it, since there are seams on the diagonals.
The lip does not have seams, and was hand-applied to the moulded base. This bottle is a prime example of cobalt glass, as signified by the rich blue colour. The bottle is 7½ inches high, 2½ wide and 1½ deep.
The label was originally cut and glued down by hand. The original price was 2s. (two shillings and nine pence) making it very expensive for the time!
The paper was watermarked to show it was authentic and not a forgery. There are also remains of a REVENUE label on the top of the bottle, both back and front. I can make out VAL and NOT but don't know what it originally said as the rest is lost, since the owner would have removed it to open the bottle. The original cork is still in the bottle. Despite having a minor defect, this bottle is stunningly beautiful and extremely rare, with its original stopper and label. Please note we are in Canada, and Canada Post can be slow.
